From 1850, architecture, art, fashion and handicrafts were shaped by the movement of the Historicism, which revived and celebrated different historical styles side by side. Since the 1920s, enthusiasm for “old German”, the “medieval” has been noticeable in German-speaking countries. Favored by the newly founded German Empire in 1871 and the associated search for a "national style", the jewellery manufacturers looked for old German or medieval jewellery forms. Finally, the two German Renaissance painters Albrecht Dürer and Hans Holbein became role models for the "national style".

This delicate Fede ring in a beautiful rich gold tone is made in the "old German" design language. In Germany, too, for many centuries alliances and engagements were sealed with a handshake. The interlaced right hands are part of the ring hoop. They are shown in great detail, even the fingernails are visible. As known from Gothic representations, the hands are elegant, delicate, long and slender. The ring is accordingly made in a neo-Gothic style.
The cuffs each consist of two golden bracelets, a ruffled border, represented by chiselled grooves, and another circlet each.

This attractive ring impresses with its accurately worked out details and its elegant simplicity, which bring out the symbol of deep love, loyalty and friendship without frills!
